Sings … “THE HEAT IS ON!! THE HEAT IS O-ONNNN !!”

Dear Singaporeans.
Today is the Presidential Election Day.
Have you done your part to vote?
:
REMEMBER
:

Voting is COMPULSORY …  you know?

While queuing to cast my precious vote, I was silently thinking of all different kinds of MATH activities that

we can do from this VOTING EXERCISE. Weird thought right??

I know. I AM a WEIRDO.

Take a look at some simple MATH concepts that can be incorporated/used during the counting of votes.

1)      If the votes are count manually, we will need to use our COUNTING skills. We can either count per piece or

group [x number of votes] into [y number of groups] and then multiply x and y together to get the total number of

 votes.

2)      We can also do bar graphs, pie charts, line charts etc … for us to visually see who has won the most votes.

3)      We can also implement the ‘more’ and ‘less’ concept. Eg: Who has more votes and who has less votes. How

many less and how many more? This is where Subtraction has to come in as you will need to calculate.

4)    Oh. And then Mr Percentage can make his presence so that we can know the percentage of votes for each

candidate.
:
:
:
And the list goes on…

At this point of time, some of you might think that I have gone  or some might say

that THIS ENTRY is not relevant to the coursework at all.

Oh well.

I’m just trying to show how my perspective and interest in MATH has changed tremendously after attending

Dr Yeap’s class. This shows that the teacher and the method he/she used will either MAKE or BREAK the

student’s interest in MATH.

AND…

I think me and MATH are starting to get along well.

Dear Dr Yeap, I am now seeing NUMBERS even in my sleep. Wonder if that’s GOOR or BAD!?

On a last note ...

Reflection for yesterday’s lesson will be posted very, very soon … Look out for it!!

HAVE A HAPPY WEEKEND, NICE PEOPLE!!
